Through ten new works, Heaton grapples with themes of femininity, loss, family, memory, and the passage of time. Using California landscapes and family memorabilia as touchstones, she seeks to understand where the person goes within the disease.

Her work captures the tension between presence and absence, the search for meaning in the midst of uncertainty, and the quiet frustration of living with questions that may never have answers. Hissyfit is an exploration of grief in its most disorienting and raw form, a meditation on what it means to lose someone, even when they are still physically here.
